Therapist Profiles – Let’s Meet Claire Wood
Welcome to the second therapist profile – this week we’re chatting to Claire Wood from Faversham Counselling Service!
Tell us about yourself!
My name’s Claire Wood, I’m 31 and from Faversham in Kent. My background before becoming a therapist was in financial education but my passion has always been therapy. I studied at Canterbury College and Community Counsellor Training in Canterbury, and then went on to complete my placement at Herne Bay Counselling Service. I finally got my BACP Accreditation in February 2022 and wanted to start my career ASAP!
What is your current role and how long have you been in this role?
My current role is Psychological Therapist in Faversham Counselling Service, and I started in April 2022. I didn’t have a NICE qualification when I started so I enrolled on the Person Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression course and absolutely clicked with the modality and have been using it in my practice ever since qualifying in June this year.
What do you enjoy the most about your role?
Honestly, everything! I see such a variety of people and building connections with them is something I really enjoy. There’s something very special about being a part of so many people’s life journeys and seeing them change from beginning to the end of their treatment.
What would you say to someone thinking of starting a talking therapy?
Give it a try! How often in life do we get an hour to sit down and talk about ourselves without having someone else say “I know how you feel” or “something similar happened to me”? Having a space where you’re free to speak safely without being judged or told what to do can be life changing. It can be hard but it’s not as scary as you might think!
Big thank you to Claire for chatting with us! Keep an eye on our socials for our next therapist profile coming soon.
